~ Before ~ it's cute, but the paint is old and dingy. I loved the curved edge on the cabinet doors, drawer and the top. I didn't know what to expect when I removed the paint, but I figured I'd start there and see what happens.
~ in progress ~ after the first attempt at stripping the paint. There was a lot left so I did another round of removing the paint residue. Stripping paint is messy.
~ in progress ~ no more paint! And it turned out to be a really cool burl wood underneath. There were a couple of missing pieces of veneer, so I patched those up and sanded everything down. With this pleasant surprise, I'm doing everything I can to show off this amazing veneer.
~ in progress ~ I'd removed the curved cabinet doors to refinish them. Here's a nice image of the raw wood underneath the green paint.
~ in progress ~ almost done! I replaced the hinges on the doors (the old ones were bent and broken). And I've just conditioned the wood with some feed-n-wax. I really liked the color of the veneer so I decided against staining it. The veneer has so much depth to it.
~ after ~ the final touch was adding some new knurled brass hardware pulls for the cabinets and drawers. Now this has a new life as a beautiful side table that also has a lot of great storage.
